Novgorod Region administration plans to revive trade in abandoned shops The administration of Novgorod Region plans to tackle the problem of closed cafes and shops along the Rossiya federal motor road within the territory of the region. As a REGNUM-News correspondent has been told today, on November 11, at the regional administration press office, deputy head of the economy committee, head of the trade department Marina Ilyinskaya reported on organization of trade activities along the highway at an administration staff meeting. It was mentioned that the federal highway crosses territories of four districts in the region, they are Chudovsky, Novgorodsky, Krestetsky, Valdaisky; more than 13% of all trading facilities in the districts are situated along the road. "While inviting investors into our region, we always mention the federal road as a positive argument. However, facilities there are not always a pleasure to be seen: abandoned rickety houses, chaotic roadside trade, closed cafes and shops," Ilyinskaya noted. On October 26-27, under an instruction of the regional governor, experts of the economy committee took a drive along the road and checked conditions of retail facilities. It turned out that seven shops and five dining places along the highway were closed, with two ones being under reconstruction. "The closed shops have been there in the territories of all the four districts and they have been closed for quite a long period," Ilyinskaya stressed noting that accessibility of local residents to trade facilities in the districts is low, lower than average in the region. Overall, according to current information of the district administration, 122 of 6,040 shops are closed, seven dining places are not functioning. The largest number of closed facilities, 35, is in the territory of Borovichsky municipal district; 18 facilities are closed in the territory of Starorussky district, 15 in the territory of Lyubytinsky district; there are 10 such objects in Shimsky district. 55% of the total number of closed facilities belong to Novoblpotrebsoyuz. Novgorod Region Governor called such situation inadmissible saying that "this means taxes that the budget has not received and workplaces that have not been organized." Under an instruction from the governor, the economy committee is to carry out an inspection of all retail facilities in the region.
